The House

Our house is a typical farmhouse build at the beginning of ‘900. It’s situated near a hamlet among vineyards and sweet chestnut tree woods in Colli Orientali del Friuli, 18 Km from Udine, at an altitude of 200 meters (650 ft).
It’s built using local stones and wood and we have renovated it using natural materials, colours and varnishes, already twenty years ago.
We have typical and old Friulan forniture: in the dining room there is the fogolàr, the fireplace for the wintertime; the seglar (sink) hand made in stone in the kitchen and the spolert (cooking stove) to cook slowly over a wood fire.

On the ground floor there is the kitchen, where Paola prepares wonderful meals using the vegetables from our organic garden, the dining room where you can have dinner quietly, a bathroom, the larder where we keep our jams, syrup fruits and Seuka apple juice, and the wine cellar, where we keep our wines.

Soft slippers are provided for the upper floors to respect the wooden stairs and to be considerate to the other guests who might be relaxing. On the first floor there are the bedrooms for our guests:
the green room that has a double bed, high and spacious, and a single bed;
the pink room for a large family, has a double bed, two singles and a baby cot.
These two rooms have a shared bathroom complete with a shower. Both rooms are with windows opening onto the large garden in front of the house.
Than the azure room with a double bed and a baby cot with a window opening at north onto the kitchen garden looking the Valley of Grivò; with its bathroom complete with an old bath.

On the second floor:

through the meeting room that is also the living room in the winter for our family, there is the yellow ochre attic room that has a double bed, a bunk bed and own bathroom complete with a shower. It has access to the long balcony overlooking the plain in the direction of the city of Udine.

A few words about our books: we live not only by our labour, but we also enjoy the help of Kurt Vonnegut, Iosif Brodskij, Amin Maalouf, Arundhati Roy, Ian McEwan, Raymond Chandler...
